April J. Asbury is a writer, editor, and teacher in southwest Virginia. She holds an M.A. from Hollins and M.F.A. from Spalding University.
Currently she directs the Highland Summer Conference at Radford University. This event, founded in 1978, brings writers, musicians, and other artists together for a yearly workshop. Previously she co-founded the Highlander Literary Festival, and she served as advisor for the English Club and student media. (She was also an advisor for a circus group, which is particularly ironic for a person who tore her ACL walking across carpet in her own bedroom.)
She teaches classes in creative writing, academic and professional writing, first-year composition, Romantic literature, 18th-century British literature, Renaissance drama, medieval literature, the work of Dante Alighieri, Appalachian literature, and folk tales.
April J. Asbury’s work has appeared in The Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Still, Artemis, Gyroscope Review, Songs of Eretz, Floyd County Moonshine, and other publications. She is a member of AWP, Appalachian Studies Association, and Poets & Writers. She is available for workshops, speaking engagements, and readings.
Her poetry chapbook, Woman with Crows, is available from Finishing Line Press.
