Spring 2026
I love Ravencon! As you’d expect from a science fiction and fantasy oriented convention, there will be cosplay. There will be games. There will be nerdtastic music and art and films and celebrity guests. This one is particularly special, however, because of its close ties to Edgar Allan Poe, community and altruism, and writing. You’d have a valuable experience just by joining the writing track, but, taken as a whole, it’s a fantastic time! I’ll be there for a reading, author signing, and multiple panels. Check it out with me in Richmond, April 24-26.
The Chautauqua Festival Creative Writing Contest is open for submissions. Submissions are free for middle and high school students, with adult entry fees going back into keeping this annual event rolling. A fantastic cause all around, culminating in an awards ceremony with guest author/editor Rae Garringer. (The ceremony and guest reading, held at Wytheville’s historic Millwald Theater, are free and open to everyone.) Entries must be postmarked by May 29, so get your submissions in now. And set aside time on June 26 to hear from the winners and Rae Garringer.
Summer 2026
The Highland Summer Conference at Radford University will return! This weeklong writing workshop is set for July 20-24 with a very special guest instructor: poet, editor, and teacher Marianne Worthington. More details to come.
